Tosh airs 8GB SD card
By announcing a high speed 8GB SD style memory card – only five months after
it announced its first such card with half that capacity – 4GB, Toshiba
looks set to trigger another free-fall in memory card prices.
The move could benefit music phone sales.
Although this latest 8GB card is only really aimed at dedicated digital
cameras and digital videophones, it will have an important knock on effect
across all electronic devices which utilise memory cards. Which increasingly
these days means smartphones and the increasing numbers of music phones –
all of which utilise variations of SD cards.
Crucially the one criticism of a smartphone when compared against a
dedicated music player like an Apple iPoD is lack of storage space. Given
that entry level iPoDs offer around 20 GB, 8 GB doesn't look so bad.
