Nokia launches unlimited music service

Nokia has launched a new programme called Comes With Music that provides customers buying a Nokia device with one year of unlimited music downloads. Once the year is over, customers will be able to keep the music despite the subscription being over.

The service will launch during the second half of 2008 and will be available across a range of selected devices within Nokia’s portfolio. Each Comes With Music device will come with a unique PIN that customers can enter into their phone to activate the one year subscription. The programme will launch with music from record label Universal Music and Nokia is in talks with other labels to increase the library.

It is not the first mobile service to offer unlimited music. Vodafone teamed up with Omnifone earlier this year to launch its MusicStation service which offers unlimited music downloads for £1.99 a week. Customers however will lose all the music they have downloaded once they stop paying the subscription. Omnifone CEO Rob Lewis said: ‘Consumers will increasingly come to expect unlimited access to music, direct to their mobiles. We are delighted to hear Nokia intends to embrace and develop its own version of the unlimited music download model.’
