Phones 4u to open 100 more stores in 2008

Phones 4u is looking to open at least 100 new stores in 2008, Mobile understands.

The retailer is targeting smaller towns as it tries to gain market share in areas where it does not have a customer base. A Phones 4u source told Mobile that the stores will have smaller targets of between £15,000 and £30,000 per month or ‘targets of two contracts a day’.

Marketing chief Jim Slater said: ‘It is really about where the best opportunities lie. Some of those might be in smaller towns, but equally some might be in multiple sites in big city centres.’

A property source said that 2008 would be more competitive than 2007 with mobile operators taking more retail space. He added that Phones 4u’s property drive is ‘more aggressive as ever’. ‘I think their strategy is attack as the best form of defence and being quite aggressive,’ he said.
