O2 announces new CEO

O2 has appointed its chief financial officer as CEO and two other senior executives will also take on new roles.

Ronan Dunne (pictured) will replace Matthew Key as CEO, who has moved on to become CEO of O2’s parent company Telefonica O2 Europe.

Dunne has been with O2 for seven years where he was the CFO for the last three years and was also on the board of directors.

Meanwhile O2 customer director Cath Keers will be leaving O2 to join Key at Telefonica, where she will take on the role of non-executive director.

O2’s sales director, Mark Stansfeld has also been promoted and will become non-executive director of O2 UK.  All four will commence their new roles on 1 February next year.

Dunne said: ‘I can’t begin to say how proud I am at being asked to lead O2 UK. This is the most special company I’ve ever known. Our story is one of phenomenal success over five years, but what excites me most is what lies ahead.’

Key said: ‘Ronan is the perfect guy for the job. He has played an enormous part in building O2 UK into the success it is today.’ He added that Keers and Stansfeld were ‘exceptional leaders’.
