Genesis Communications has hired Graham Ward, former managing director of Motorola Telco and Vodafone Corporate, to lead a management buyout at the company.
Ward had originally been brought in as a troubleshooter to reorganise the business and make it fit for sale, but he has now been hired permanently to lead a management buyout at the Bury-based firm.
Ward said the creative freedom of the job was the main attraction. He said: ‘I’m in a fortunate position that I can pick and choose my work commitments. What Genesis offered was the potential to try out ideas that had been running around my mind for the last 10 years. It was just too tempting to turn down.’
Ward outlined plans to introduce new services, which will mean that mobile phones will account for less than 50% of turnover by 2010. He added: ‘We’ve already introduced a new range of products and services, from mobile email to vehicle tracking and server hosting; making it possible for businesses to get a number of data and voice services from one provider – under one contract and one bill.’
Genesis Communications is the UK’s largest independent business mobile and data service provider, with 120,000 handset subscribers.
