Play.com leads online indie surge
The total online spend for all products in 2007 is predicted to be £53.3bn, 76% higher than the £30.2bn recorded for 2006.
Despite the surge in online shopping for gadgets, the iPhone is not proving to be a popular Christmas gift for web shoppers after failing to rank in the top 10 Christmas gifts, according to Retail Decisions.A spokesman for Play.com, which is heavily promoting prepay deals, said: ‘Play.com is experiencing superb growth in mobile, with sales up over 200% year on year. Our focus throughout the year and Q4 has been on mid/high-value prepay, offering quality product and connections, to an entertainment-focused customer base.’
