Competing with the Geek Squad Gang
Tesco has acquired PC Guys which will be a store, phone and home-based support service for its customers. The retailer has started piloting the service at a store in Cambridge.
Geek Squad launched last year is a technology support service designed to help its TalkTalk and AOL customers get the best from the internet. A spokesman for Carphone Warehouse said: ‘We are successfully rolling out Geek Squad in the UK which is already proving to be popular. We do not see Tesco’s new offering as a threat.’
In addition DSG unveiled its own tech support service last September, called the TechGuys.
When the Geek Squad service rolls out nationwide, it will be sharing road space with a 400-strong TechGuys workforce. DSG also plans to expand its standalone store portfolio from five to 50, and have a TechGuy in every one of its 156 PC World stores by the end of the year.
