Sony Ericsson MD: 2008 will be a strong year for convergence

John Harber, Sony Ericsson’s UK MD, has said that 2008 will be a strong year for convergence, during which companies will need to rely more on partnerships to satisfy their consumers.

Harber was speaking to Mobile for our ‘Predictions of 2008’ feature. Here are his comments in full:

‘2008 finally sees the arrival of HSDPA speeds and all that they bring with them. Customers who have been used to broadband at home will be happy to use their new phones for data rich applications revolving around Video, Music, Email, Social Networking and much more.

‘Users will no longer be restricted to side loading data with access to key applications truly available on the move. This will also lead to wider spread adoption of flat rate data tariffs by consumers who are keen to have a mobile extension of their home PC.

‘For the industry this movement brings many new players and increases the importance of partnerships to deliver value to the end user.

‘The consumer will at last realise the true value of mobile data.’
