Handset market to slow next year
Respected Nomura analyst Dr Richard Windsor says that handset manufacturers will see their sales slowing up in 2008. They will also have to work harder to please customers.
He told Mobile: ‘The overall handset market is going to slow down because you have got increasing maturity in some of the developing markets. So where we had 17% growth in 2007, we are looking at about 10% in 2008.
‘There is going to be an increasing emphasis on user experience. Basically it is down to the handset makers because what has happened is the iPhone has set a standard and you are seeing everyone scramble to catch up with that standard.
‘Music is being held as the leader so, I think you will see more efforts around music but I think you will see things like browsing and gaming and Nokia’s Ovi pushed heavily in 2008.’
