Carphone puts TalkMobile in staff stocking
Carphone Warehouse treated every employee with a strange gift this Christmas: two months free usage of the company’s new own-brand postpay offering, Talkmobile.
Staff were provided with 50 free minutes and 50 free texts for each of the months and are under no obligation to sign up for any more.
Some staff interpreted the gesture as a means to foist a contract on them.
Carphone’s UK CEO Andrew Harrison emailed staff to allay fears with details of the gift. He reassured workers that no direct debit details have been set up and that credit checks on staff hadn’t been carried out before setting up the offers.
Opinion was split amongst workers Mobile spoke to over whether it was a genuine present or just a ploy to improve usership figures.
Talkmobile was launched in October last year after Carphone teamed up with Vodafone to launch the MNVO. The contracts come in nine, 12 and 18-month deals, starting at £12 per month with 50 free minutes and 50 texts.
