4u: No immediate plans for US and Europe

Phones 4u chief Tim Whiting has dismissed suggestions of a move into opening Phones 4u stores in Europe and America in the immediate future.

He said: ‘We would consider it, yes, but there are certainly no firm plans at the moment.’

The retailer’s next move has been anticipated since the company was sold by John Caudwell to Doughty Hanson in August 2006 for over £1bn.

Overseas moves, acquisitions and diversifying beyond mobile phones have all been mooted, but the company has so far been cautious.

Instead, Phones 4u has won plaudits for strengthening its relationships with network providers with a series of long-term commercial deals secured by Whiting.

Mobile reported last month that Phones 4u is planning to expand its 480-strong store portfolio, but focus on smaller retail formats.
