Shop Idol - Mobile and Motorola hunt for 2008 sales star

Shop Idol, the largest and most prestigious sales competition in the industry, launched this week as Mobile and Motorola began their nationwide search to find the industry’s number one sales person.

The competition finds and makes stars out of staff with the best shop floor skills, offering them an unparalleled opportunity to expose their talents. The winner will receive a £2,000 holiday, but equally important is the chance for contenders to raise their profile in the industry.

Tim Whiting, CEO of Phones 4u, said: ‘Shop Idol is a fun competition that really gets sales people thinking about best practice and motivated to deliver excellence to customers. It sets a real challenge to entrants and many sales staff who progress in the competition benefit in their careers.’

The competition, now in its fourth year, is sponsored by Motorola and has the support of Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4u, O2, Orange, T-Mobile, Virgin Mobile, Vodafone and 3, who are hand picking some of their top salespeople to enter the competition.

The first phase will be a nationwide search to find an official champion to represent the major retailers. Contestants will face a secret video mystery shop to sample their sales skills, and also take sales and product knowledge tests devised with the help of networks and retail employers.
