Vodafone snaps up Sony Ericsson W960

The long-awaited Sony Ericsson W960 with 8GB memory is now available on Vodafone.

The phone was pencilled in for a December and then put back after Sony Ericsson thought the Christmas market was too crowded for a launch of such a high profile product, especially as it would follow the launch of the N95 8GB and iPhone.

The W960 has a walkman media player, 3.2MP camera and a FM radio. It is the more technical updated version of the W950, while the W910,which has already been launched, has a more mass market appeal.

It has been a busy Christmas and New Year for Vodafone customers with more calls and texts made and delivered than ever before. At its busiest period on New Year’s Eve the Vodafone network handled 48 million text messages, which was nearly 5,000 messages per second.  In total on 31 December the Vodafone network carried 66 million text messages for its 17 million customers.

This is in addition to the 87 million voice calls which were also made by Vodafone customers during the same period. High Volumes  continued on Christmas Day, with the peak time to contact friends and family being at 10 am, when Vodafone delivered over 1,600 text messages per second.
