Blacklist of retail fraudsters goes live

The industry’s first fraud list has gone live and will be made available to the mobile trade in April or May this year.

A test run of the list has begun with Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4u – the only companies involved in the pilot.

The list allows retailers to access information about former employees involved in fraud in a bid to cut down on them moving from company to company.

The Telecommunications UK Fraud Forum (TUFF), the organisation behind the register, says that there has been ‘lots of interest’ from other mobile companies.

TUFF’s Jack Wraith said: ‘We’ve had interest from many companies with a large high street presence. They can register their interest any time and negotiations can start. There has been a willingness from the networks to get involved. There’s no reason why they wouldn’t want to; it’s a no-brainer.’

Companies wanting access to the database must be TUFF members. Membership costs £4,000 per year plus VAT.
