Virgin unveils new prepay strategy

Virgin mobile unveiled a new initiative to ensure prepay customer loyalty, along with a simplified pricing structure. The MVNO will start putting aside 10p for every pound its prepaid customers spend and allowing the subscribers to put the accumulated money toward a new handset once they have reached a minimum of £10.

The new pricing structure brings a flat per-minute rate to all networks at all times, at 15p per minute. This replaces the previous charges of 30p per minute to other networks, and 15p for first five minutes and 5p thereafter to other Virgin numbers.

‘The [prepay] tariff hasn’t changed since we launched,’ Graeme Oxby, CEO at Virgin Mobile says. ‘It’s time for Virgin to go back to what we have always tried to do: bring simplicity and good value’.

In addition, prepay users get five free minutes or texts for every five minutes or texts they pay for. To keep their customers happy, Virgin Mobile is also planning to give out little bonuses, such as money off haircuts at Tony & Guy or discounts on Virgin Holidays.
