T-Mobile UK today revealed it took on 165,000 new contract customers during 2007 taking its overall contract base to 3.9 million.
In the same period the firm grew its pre-pay customer base by 241,000 to 13.4 million.
In total, T-Mobile added 406,000 net new customers last year in the UK, increasing its total customer base, including Virgin Mobile customers, to a record level of 17.3 million.
And the year culminated in a strong Christmas quarter with 306,000 customers added in the last three months of the year alone.
Jim Hyde, managing director of T-Mobile UK said: ‘We have built on the exceptional growth we achieved in 2006 with a further strong increase in our customer base, despite the highly competitive mobile marketplace.
‘The holiday gifting season was also good for us, particularly with our strong pre-pay offer, and we added more than 300,000 customers in the last quarter of the year.
‘We look forward to building further on our momentum during the current year with our focus on simple value-for-money tariffs, innovative new services and continued leadership in high speed mobile broadband and data.’
During the year, T-Mobile UK was the first to launch ‘pay per day’ unlimited mobile broadband while also introducing the unique MyFaves giving unlimited calls and texts to five chosen friends on any network.
The firm also launched Family Share providing one monthly bill for all members of a family while also adding Just SIM and Mobile Jukebox.
In addition the company added 26 new stores bringing the UK portfolio to 273.
In December, T-Mobile UK announced the pioneering network share deal with 3, creating Europe’s largest 3G network, setting what it believes may become an industry trend and promising almost complete population coverage for 3G services across Britain by the end of 2008.
