Vodafone abandons office in cost cutting plans

Vodafone has launched a cost cutting exercise by vacating one of its large office buildings and putting it up for let.

Around 300 members of staff, mostly working in technology roles, have been moved from Arlington business park in Theale, Berkshire, to the firm’s HQ in nearby Newbury.

Mike Newens, global property director, said: ‘We are trying to use our office space more efficiently. We are always paying attention to what the market prices of property are but that doesn’t not necessarily mean we are looking to buy.’

The operator used to own three buildings within the business park but is no longer in occupation of any of them. The final building to be vacated by the operator, called The Exchange, is available for let. It is around 38,000 square feet in size.
