Vodafone adds 500,000 customers
Vodafone has cemented its market-leading position after adding nearly half a million new UK customers over Christmas.
The operator took on 192,760 new contract customers in the three months leading up to Christmas, with the remaining 295,000 on prepay.
Data was a big win for Vodafone, with messaging and data up to 20.9% of the operator’s UK revenue in June, and rising to 27.1% of sales.
A spokesman for Vodafone said: ‘Networks are increasingly getting faster and more capable of carrying data to customers.
‘This comes from devices such as handsets and data card USB modems that provide much better user experiences.
‘I also think pricing had an effect, as the cost to use these services has steadily decreased.’
The number of 3G devices being taken on by UK Vodafone customers has also risen dramatically over the past nine months from nearly two million to 3.2 million.
