Second Life goes mobile

Second Life goes mobile

Online virtual reality world, Second Life is deputing on mobile. Vollee, a company specialised in bringing console games will enable access to the full online world, letting people explore, interact and communicate with other virtual ‘residents’.

The experience is optimised for mobile, taking into account the smaller screen size and the difference in keyboard. The beta version of Second Life will only be accessible via 3G handsets. Exploring the virtual world is free in the beta version, although data costs will occur.

‘What we have developed is a service which, for the first time, allows you to access a rich persistent virtual 3D world the way it is supposed to be experienced on your phone,’ said Martin Dunsby, CEO, Vollee.  ‘This is a true ‘before and after moment' in which mobile is living up to its potential in serving as an always on, connected platform.’

Pofessional social networking site, Linkedin also launched a mobile version. Beta version of the site will be available on a number of handsets, including Blackberries, iPhone and the iPod touch. The site has over 19 million users online.
