iPhone users swarm Google
Google has said that the iPhone is used for its web searches 50 times more than any other handset, according to a report in the Financial Times.
The figures will come as a boost to both companies at a time when they are thought to be eyeing each others prized assets with a view to becoming competitors.
There is heavy speculation that Google is to release its own handset, following unveiling its own mobile operating system called Android.
Meanwhile the research appears to confirm Apple’s belief that its iPhone handset is capable of generating significant revenues from the mobile internet. Vic Gundotra, head of Google’s mobile operations, said that he expects the number of mobile searches to overtake fixed internet searches ‘within the next several years’ if more web friendly handsets like the iPhone are released.
