'Fast-selling' iPhone helps O2 to record sales
O2 has posted a strong set of results for Q4 in the UK, helped by the performance of the fast-selling iPhone.
The operator added almost half a million UK customers in the UK and bagged a record number of contract additions - 276,000.
Matthew Key, chairman and chief executive of Telefonica Europe said it was the ‘highest number ever’ of contract additions and was ‘helped by the iPhone, the fastest selling device that we have ever had in the UK.’
Key could also point to success in O2’s focus on high value customers with blended ARPU up by £1 to £24 in the UK, while revenues in grew by 7.8% and 18.7%.
The UK was the star of the show for Telefonica other markets performing more slowly. In Germany sales were flat and blended ARPU fell, while Ireland and the Czech republic saw sales climb by less than 2%.
