Xperia X1 release date still on track

Sony Ericsson has quashed rumours that the release of its first ever windows phone, the  Xperia X1, has been delayed until next year.

Reports were sparked by the release date page on the manufacturers website, which said the device would come out early next year. However, a Sony Ericsson spokesman told Mobile that this was an error.

He said: ‘No it’s not the case that he it has been delayed. The Xperia X1 will launch in the second half of 2008. Whatever appeared on the website was incorrect, the fact is it will still be out this year.’

The positive news should please phone purists, as the device was one of the most talked about releases at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month.

The X1 has been described as Sony Ericsson’s response to the iPhone, as it is geared to watching videos, using the internet and playing music. It has a large screen, touch screen, a full qwerty keyboard and a number of customisable panels on its user-interface.
