Orange contract customers targeted by rival operators
Orange is being targeted by rival operators looking to poach customers nearing the end of their contracts.
It’s 18 months since Orange unleashed its animal tariffs on the market in a bid to stem the flow of customers joining T-Mobile’s Flext tariff. Large commissions were poured into Orange’s Racoon, Canary, Panther and Dolphin tariffs to bring down Flext, which was taking 50% of the contract market at the time.
Orange took a third of all contracts in July and August 2006 with the tariffs, and now those customers are set to end their 18-month contracts.
One senior retail source said: ‘There are a lot of Orange customers ending their contracts and are looking to update their handsets. Operators are telling us they want those customers.’
T-Mobile UK MD Jim Hyde said: ‘Those customers who signed up for Orange are now up for renewal and we will be targeting them.’
