Handset bosses embark on sport battles
The UK heads of Samsung and Nokia are both testing their lungs for charity.
Samsung’s UK vice president, Mark Mitchinson, has been immortalised online with a Rocky-style training video, as he bids to run the London Marathon in April to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Meanwhile, Nokia’s UK MD, Simon Ainslie, has flown to Spain to cycle for Sports Relief.
Ainslie, a regular tri-athlete, joined Olympic rower James Cracknell earlier this week to take part on his ‘Cross Continent Challenge’.
Ainslie took part in the 120km leg in southern Spain of Cracknell’s cycle ride from the UK to Morocco.
Mitchinson hosted a charity auction in London this week, which saw the total raised for Cystic Fibrosis push past the £52,000 mark.
Both Ainslie and Mitchinson are also combining their efforts with handsets from their respective companies.
Samsung is announcing a top secret handset today (Friday - see Mobiletoday.co.uk), while Nokia is sponsoring Cracknell’s challenge with an N82 equipped with all the technology Cracknell needs for navigation, including mapping and GPS, as well as a camera to record the journey.
Mitchinson has been training hard for the 26-mile marathon next month. In his training diary, Mitchinson revealed he has already managed to cover the half marathon Ð just another half to go!
