WHSmith has made a return to the mobile phone market with the roll out of a range of prepay Orange devices to over 80% of its stores.
The nationwide roll out follows a two and a half month trial in 50 stores around the country that began just before Christmas.
As well as being sold online, prepay Orange devices are now available in 434 of WHSmith’s 530 stores.
WHSmith’s digital buyer Sharka Dubois said: ‘We are excited and committed to this new opportunity, which we believe will enhance the offer we can provide to our large and diverse customer base.
The retailer is expected to only range Orange devices during the next quarter.
But Dubois added: ‘That doesn’t mean that we won’t look at networks out side of that.’
Comment Retail Services ran the trial and on-line sales and will look after the range in both the high street and travel stores.
Comment’s sales director Caroline Preston said: ‘We’re very pleased that WHSmith have chosen to continue working with us. The on-line offers were very successful and we expect to be able to replicate this in-store.’
