Garmin still in talks with networks
Garmin, a leading GPS manufacturer, is still yet to agree a deal with any operators after it announced its entrance into the mobile phone market last month.
The manufacturer is currently speaking to UK networks about taking up the handset, but so far no deals have been signed.
The handset is likely to be sold in outlets including Carphone Warehouse, Curries, Halfords and Amazon.
A spokesman for Garmin told Mobile: ‘There has been a lot of interest from the networks and ideally we hope to agree deals with them. But if we can’t, we would be willing to sell the phone Sim-free.’
He added: ‘It’s not the first phone we have released. We went into the smartphone market a few years ago but that proved a bit too soon. Now the eco-system is ready around smartphones and we are really excited about the release.’
The nüvifone combines an HSDPA phone, mobile web-browser and personal navigator, and is expected to be released in the UK around July.
