LG poised to sponsor NEC Arena in Birmingham
LG is believed to be in talks over a deal to sponsor the NEC Arena in Birmingham, in an agreement that it is believed will cost the manufacturer £2m a year.
The deal is similar to O2’s agreement to sponsor the former Millennium Dome, which costs the operator around £6M a year.
Jeremy Newing, LG’s head of marketing, told Mobile: ‘I’m not going to deny that talks are happening but as it stands nothing has been signed. We are always looking at sponsorship opportunities to further the brand in the UK.’
LG has sharpened its focus on music of late and a deal to sponsor the NEC Arena would give the manufacturer an addition platform to promote these plans.
LG recently agreed a deal with Omnifone, the company that partnered Vodafone on the unlimited download music service, MusicStation. It is also thought that the manufacturer is planning to give consumers unlimited free music downloads in a bid to fight to increase share on the contract market this year.
