Carphone business chief leaves to join SpinVox

Carphone’s head of business development and strategic development, Irfan Hamid, has left the retailer to join SpinVox, the company that converts voicemail into text messages.

Hamid will take on the role of vice president of global product management, with responsibility for managing the company’s current and new product roadmap. He will report to James Robins, group marketing director.

‘The Carphone Warehouse was the first retail outlet for SpinVox and my team was in charge of rolling this out. SpinVox has done amazingly well by securing some remarkable carrier deals globally and its potential reminds me of Carphone Warehouse in its initial stages.’

SpinVox has had a very successful first three months of 2008. The company announced a £50m funding, the launch with Canadian operator, Telus and Vodafone Spain, as well as the release of its SpinVox BlackBerry plug-in.
