Sainsbury’s to double the number of its phone stores
Sainsbury’s is looking to double the number of stores it offers mobile phones in from 150 to 300.
The retailer is investing heavily in its non-foods division, including relocating the entire operation from Holborn in London to Coventry.
The move is expected to take place between July and October this year, and will double the size of its non-foods buying team.
Sainsbury’s is also believed to be in discussions with several distributors about how and where it buys its phones.
The supermarket has seen a big spike in mobile sales since Christmas, with operators looking to generate sales from the prepay market.
A source within the business said: ‘We are having pretty open dialogue with Data Select, Brightstar, and the networks. We are pleasantly surprised by the level of interest.’
