Carphone launches fraud crackdown
Carphone Warehouse has launched an internal investigation into a number of its stores, after staff were found to have manipulated credit check systems to sign up more customers to contract deals.
Carphone boss Andrew Harrison denied reports that as many as 450 staff are under investigation, but he did reveal that there was a ‘crackdown’ affecting some stores in the London area. Some salespeople in large stores have already been suspended.
Carphone’s Oxford Street store is thought to have been one of a ‘handful’ of stores that has come under the spotlight.
Harrison said: ‘There is an issue in London that we are investigating. We’ve invested in systems to be able to identify problems quickly.’
