The end of one of the most bizarre and controversial pacts is weeks away – the first ever LG handsets on Vodafone and a Samsung on 3.
A deal is understood to have been brokered around the time 3 launched five years ago where Vodafone agreed it would not source LG handsets in exchange for Samsung not supplying 3.
That will come to an end in the coming weeks as a raft of LG handsets officially appear on the Vodafone handset portfolio including colour exclusives.
The new LG Secret is expected to be the first LG for Vodafone.
Preparations have already been made with Ian Tew, formerly of Orange, joining LG to manage the Vodafone account.
It is also understood that the widely anticipated Samsung Soul will be the first Samsung handset to be available from 3.
Phones 4u was given the green light to sell the LG Viewty in recent months, and Carphone has been offering the Samsung Ted Button ‘Button’ phone on 3.
The parties involved are welcoming the shift, as it will open up new customers to both manufacturers and both operators.
