Motorola boss to close gaps in product range

Motorola will focus on catching up with its rival handset manufacturers
in Q2, said CEO Greg Brown. ‘We will be pursuing areas and gaps where we are not competing today.

‘We have an embryonic 3G portfolio. We will also expand our portfolio in messaging and touch,’ Brown (pictured) said.

He added that Motorola will also focus on music.

The second quarter of the year will see more handsets launched than the six phones already released in the first three months of 2008.

However, the company doesn’t expect this to have an immediate impact on sales. Brown said: ‘In the second quarter we expect sales to remain flat and an operating loss comparable to the first quarter.’
