Allera: Dealers should be embracing dongles

3 sales director Marc Allera has urged dealers to move into the mobile broadband market and stop fretting about the smaller commissions compared with traditional mobile contracts.

Allera said that the steep rise in dongles will continue in 2008 as more laptops are sold in the UK and there becomes greater consumer awareness.

Market research company GfK said dongles have already broken past the 100,000-per-month sales mark.

‘Our figures show a big rise in sales, but the proportion dealers are selling is underweight,’ said Allera. ‘It is critical to recognise this as a growing market, and not a replacement to the mobile phone business.’

Separately, Allera confirmed that he would be adding 30 3-branded stores this year, taking the total to 300. The operator is currently looking to revamp its existing store base with a new format being trialled in its store on Oxford Street.
