Premium services regulator announces review
The telecoms industry premium services regulator has announced a review of the £350m industry, after a 40% rise in mobile-related complaints.
Regulator PhonepayPlus (formerly known as ICSTIS), which regulates
music ringtones, games and other downloads, revealed that during Q1 it received more than 4,500 complaints related to mobile - a 40% increase on a similar period last year.
Chief executive of PhonepayPlus George Kidd said: ‘There are clear rules when it comes to the promotion, content and delivery of mobile phone paid services.’
During 2007 it dished out fines of £360,000 to 33 companies, and by March 2008, it had already adjudicated on 15 mobile services, resulting in fines of £223,500.
