Cambridge is worst city for mobile phone theft
Cambridge is the mobile phone theft capital of the UK, with 20% of residents reported to have had their phone stolen, according to new research.
A poll of 2,050 people by life assistance business CPP found 40% of mobile thefts in Cambridge involved phones being snatched from bags.
The study also showed that thieves are most likely to strike in the late evenings – one in three residents admitted falling victim to phone theft while out in one of the city’s night spots.
The poll found Leicester to be the second worst for phone theft, followed by London, Birmingham, Glasgow and Sheffield.
According to the Metropolitan Police, as many as 10,000 mobile phones are stolen every month.
