Credit crunch could help mobile retail expansion
The mobile phone industry is in a strong bargaining position for negotiating better lease deals at a number of new UK shopping centres, thanks to the credit crunch.
One UK property expert told Mobile that major operators and retailers have a ‘strong hand’ for retail expansion, with the credit crunch making it difficult for shopping centre owners to fill plots.
A number of new shopping centres are set to open in the UK this year, including sites in Bristol, Cardiff, Cambridge and White City in London.
The UK property expert said: ‘The operators and retailers have a stronger hand at the moment. They will be testing the market as much as they can.’
