BlackBerry firm takes email phones to the mass market
BlackBerry firm RIM is taking its email phones to the mass market.
An industry source said that the BlackBerry manufacturer has gone from having ‘an almost non-existent’ share of the consumer market to around 3% in the space of nine months.
RIM began the year with a pink version of its Pearl device available exclusively at Carphone Warehouse stores on a number of £30 tariff deals.
This week the company announced it would be sponsoring the O2 Wireless Festival for the first time. RIM also recently launched a television marketing campaign that aims to showcase BlackBerry’s capabilities.
Analysts say RIM’s Q1 earnings, which were due to be released as Mobile went to press, are at the higher end of RIM’s last set of forecasts.
