Pre-order 3G iPhone sells out in the first few hours
The 3G iPhone went on pre-order sale for the first time today and sold out within the first few hours of release.
The release of the prepay version will now be delayed until Q4, but O2 says it will be out ‘well in time for the Christmas rush’.
The operator says that more supplies are on the way and the demand today will not effect supplies for the release date this Friday (July 11). The device will go on sale at 8:02 am in O2 stores, Carphone Warehouse and the Apple store.
The 16BG version of the device sold out around two hours after it went on sale, with the 8GB stock running out soon afterwards.
Steven Shurrock, Consumer sales director at O2, told Mobile: ‘Demand was phenomenal and we were out of stock quicker than we thought we’d be. There were a few problems with the site and some customers experienced a bit of slow down. We invested a lot in the site but the demand was huge.’
