iPhone clearance deals help Apple to best ever Q3 results
Clearance deals for the original iPhone have helped Apple report its best ever Q3 results for revenue and earnings.
Shipments of the iPhone nearly trebled, with 717,000 mobile handsets sold in the three months compared with 270,000 in the previous quarter.
Both O2 and Carphone Warehouse dropped the price of the original iPhone by £100 ahead of the launch of the 3G version.
The results, which do not include the new 3G iPhone showed a net profit of £548m up from £407m for the same quarter last year, while sales had risen from £2.6bn to £3.7bn.
