Fears that more operators will cut top-up commissions
Newsagents and convenience store owners have expressed fears that T-Mobile, O2, 3 and Orange will follow Vodafone’s lead in cutting commission. However, T-Mobile and O2 told Mobile that they currently have no plans to change the commission structure.
Spar’s trading director, Chris Lewis, said that when one network reduces its commission, others usually follow suit. Lewis said: ‘The last cut, of half a percentage point, was two years ago, and was led by T-Mobile. Everyone followed suit.
‘I’d put my car and kids on the operators saying if Vodafone can get away with it, so can we.’
