Ofcom announces further delays to 3G auction

Ofcom has announced further delays to the 3G spectrum expansion, as T-Mobile and O2 continue to challenge the auction process.

Applications for the spectrum were initially expected to be invited in July, but this was delayed by a legal challenge brought by T-Mobile and O2.

The operators were unhappy with Ofcom’s plans to auction more 3G spectrum before details of its refarming of current 3G spectrum was announced.

A statement from the regulator, issued today, said: ‘Litigation is currently ongoing and we continue to press for it to be progressed as expeditiously as possible. In the meantime, we have decided that we will not call for applications in September or October 2008.’
