Samsung unveils UK’s first eight-megapixel camera phone

Samsung has won the race to release the first eight-megapixel camera on the UK market, and has announced that Carphone will sell the device exclusively.

The handset had been the subject of some confusion after Samsung’s partner Symbian unveiled the handset last month under its Korean name ‘Innov8’. However, that announcement proved premature, and Samsung has announced the device will be called i8510 in the UK market.

As well as the ground-breaking camera, the handset offers 8GB of internal memory,
Symbian OS V9.3, HSDPA high speed internet, Wi-Fi and GPS.

Mark Mitchinson, VP of Samsung Mobile UK and Ireland, said:  ‘Samsung has always produced high-quality camera-phone technology, and to be the first company to launch an eight-megapixel multimedia device in the UK is a proud moment for everyone involved and demonstrates beyond any doubt that Samsung is very much on the ascendancy.

’The Samsung i8510offers a staggering array of multimedia technology to enhance and reward the consumers experience at every level.’
