Nokia's first touch-screen lands - 5800 XpressMusic

Nokia has officially entered the touch-screen arena with the launch of the impressively specced Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. Although not at first, as of next year the 5800 will be completely compatible with Nokia's Comes With Music service meaning users will have unlimited access to millions of music tracks for a twelve month period. Operating on the Symbian S60 operating system, we can expect a host of downloadable applications, with Nokia's OVI platform sure to benefit. The touch-screen itself is an impressive 3.2-inches; while a 3.2-megapixel camera complete with Carl Zeiss lens is also onboard.

Nokia has introduced a novel ‘Media Bar' to the device that acts as a drop down menu for fast access to all your music, videos and photos as well as a direct link to the web for online sharing. Billing itself as a music device it's refreshing to see that Nokia has included 8GB of onboard memory as well as that much sought after 3.5mm jack meaning you can use your own headphones. The ‘Contacts Bar' allows users to track the interaction history of up to four of your favourite contacts, displaying recent text messages, emails, calls, photos and blog updates, all at the touch of a button.

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is expected to be on sale from Q4 2008 with an RRP of £220 (before tax and subsidies). The Comes With Music version will be available as of next year, though no pricing details are yet available.
