3 UK and Ireland emerged from the difficult first half of the year with 16% growth in contract customers, as financial results from parent company Hutchison Whampoa show.

The operator’s total customer base grew by 10% in the first six months of this year, reaching 4.8 million. Most of 3’s customers (3.2m) are on a contract. Prepay only grew by 1% in the period.
