Mini laptop market is booming
Mobile operators are starting to cash in on the booming mini-laptop market with sales climbing towards 10%.
Carphone Warehouse’s Webbook (the retailer’s major laptop product) has been the main catalyst in building up its laptop category, and it is understood to have taken 10% of the entire laptop market in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, Orange is giving away an Asus mini laptop with its mobile broadband deals, and LG will unveil its low-cost netbook next month. There are also widespread rumours that Apple will unveil a netbook in the near future.
The share of netbooks within the laptop market has doubled within the space of the last two months. In September this year, over 8% of all laptops sold were netbooks, compared with 4.5% in July this year.
Just one year ago netbooks accounted for less than 1% of the overall laptop market.
