First Google phone applications launch on Android Market
The first applications for the Google phone have been made available. The Android Market, the application shop for the G1 handset, now stores 50 free applications that can be accessed from the Android website. The applications range from games and business applications to multimedia.
There are a number of mapping and navigation applications that take advantage of the GPS component on the handset. Games include well known names like Tetris and Pac-Man as well as new ones such as Android Says. Thousands more applications will be made available to G1 handset users.
The phone is the first handset with the Android operating system and is exclusively offered by T-Mobile. Customers get the phone free on a £40 per month tariff. T-Mobile says over 25,000 customers have pre-registered their interest in the handset ahead of its launch on 30 October.
