Motorola UK boss Jim Michel quits
Motorola UK general manager Jim Michel has quit the business, Mobiletoday understands.
Michel leaves amid broader problems for Motorola across all of its territories as it continues to see rack up losses and struggles to return to the handset market with a credible range of products.
Michel’s replacement is understood to be the current UK sales chief, who will now occupy a dual role for the UK business.
Motorola’s key customers will be informed of Michel’s exit in the coming days.
It is also believed that Motorola’s sparse handset portfolio will continue into the first half of 2009, with no product launches penciled in until the summer.
However, sources close to the manufacturer said there are five major devices set to be hit the market for the second half of 2009 which are expected to act as a catalyst for Motorola’s return to the handset market.
Motorola’s handset division posted a £530m loss between the beginning of July and end of September, with the broader Motorola group openly saying it is looking to sell of its struggling handset business.
Motorola wasn’t available to comment as Mobiletoday went to press.
