Virgin Mobile sees surge in Sim-only deals
Virgin Mobile’s Liberty Sim has given Virgin a chance to become a credible contract player with 78,300 new contract customers in the last quarter.
Reflecting the change in tack, the company’s prepay base fell to 3.7 million customers from 4.1 million this time last year.
Virgin Mobile has been heavily promoting its Sim-only deals, and group CEO Neil Berkett said that a big contributor for the sales was pushing the deal on Virgin’s existing home broadband customers.
The operator has already added 2,000 mobile broadband customers since the deal’s launch last month.
Virgin renegotiated its wholesale deal with new improved rates after a six-year deal signed in June this year that covered 3G.
