T-Mobile and O2 not stocking laptops for Christmas

T-Mobile and O2 will be the only major operators not stocking laptops this Christmas.

Mobile reported in October that T-Mobile chose to ditch laptop manufacturer partner Acer because of stock shortages. The retailer has since entered talks with a number of other laptop manufacturers, but has failed to agree to terms with any of them in time for Christmas. Meanwhile, O2 is yet to start selling netbooks in store.

T-Mobile and O2’s decisions not to compete in the area comes as a surprise, with operators reporting that sales of netbooks have been flying of late. Around 30,000 netbooks (mini-laptops with seven to eight-inch screens) were sold in December 2007, and analysts say figures could jump tenfold this December.

3, Vodafone and Orange are all offering mobile broadband bundled with netbooks. 3 partners HP, Orange partners Asus and Vodafone has an agreement with Dell.
