Orange to launch research and development division
Orange is launching a research and development division in the UK for a new wave of broadband and mobile services.

The Technocentre will consist of 80 engineers, researchers and marketing specialists in London and Bristol, who will identify market changes and come up with new products. It will work alongside the operator’s consumer, business and new business teams from 5 January 2009.

The Technocentre forms part of Orange Labs, the global innovation network that employs more than 5,000 staff in 19 countries and is responsible for many of the 8,500 patents already registered with Orange and its parent, France Telecom.

Orange expects the first set of products and services from its research and development teams to be released in the second half of 2009.

Orange UK chief executive, Tom Alexander, said: ‘These are the guys who are moving quickly, in small teams, to develop new and exciting services for our customers before anyone else does.’
